A funny thing happens to equipment with moving parts in cold, icy weather. It slows down, breaks down, or in some way, lets you down. Take for instance stubborn chunks of fused rock salt or debris that jam the drive system of most tailgate spreaders. That’s one jam session that won’t happen with Meyer® Blaster™ spreaders because Blasters have the most powerful spreader motor available. The Blaster’s unique ½ horsepower, direct-drive motor is rated at up to 70 amps of surge power to grind through those annoying chunks of salt or sand. And the direct-drive system applies the torque directly to the auger.

Need To Do A Little Sand Blasting?
Your basic Blasters come in 350- and 750-pound capacities. But if you need to throw sand, or a blend of salt and sand, you need the “S” versions. The 350S and 750S models come ready to spread a 50/50 blend of dry, free-flowing, #1 rock salt and sand; or sand only. If you want to add sand-spreading capabilities to a standard 350 or 750, you can also purchase a Vibrator Kit that converts a basic Blaster into an "S" model (see accessory section for details.)

One-touch Auto Control
One-touch operation provides you total control over Blaster spreaders. The illuminated in-cab controller (patent-pending) includes buttons for the on/off switch, the "blast" mode which provides an on-command 70 amp surge, and a "vibrate" mode. You can also regulate the spinner speed with the variable speed controller.
Selecting the Auto Spinner Stop Mode will automatically stop the spinner from spinning when the truck's brakes are applied for more than five seconds. The Auto Vibrate Mode automatically vibrates the spreader for ten seconds every sixty (60) seconds to keep your load agitated and ready to spread.

Solid As A ROC
Originally used for military purposes, the Blaster’s1/2-horsepower motor is explosion proof… which means its thick steel protects the inner workings from all--and we mean all--outside elements. And if that’s not heavy-duty enough, the Blaster’s direct-drive system links the motor directly to the auger, creating up to 75% more auger power than non-direct drive set-ups. And don’t forget the motor shaft is made of stainless steel and is press-fitted with double ball bearings (all good stuff).

But the motor is not the only thing about Blasters that’s tough as nails. The hoppers are made of rust-proof, high-density polyurethane…the hopper frames are powder coated with automotive style paint…the nine-inch spinners are made of stainless steel…and the electrical harnesses include watertight, marine-style connections. Plus, you can purchase optional motor guards that double as storage stands in the off season.

We know tailgate/receiver hitch spreaders operate in one of the most severe environments on earth. In order to keep your spreading materials protected from the harsh elements we include heavy-duty locking straps on each side of the hopper cover to keep moisture out. Nothing impedes spreader performance in the hopper more than wet material. The locking straps keep the lid on the hopper at all speeds thus improving your spreading performance.

- The rear-area light kit includes an area light and brake light.
- The area light illuminates the work area for better visual acuity and the LED Brake Light serves as an additional brake light.

Removable Hopper Screen
The removable, welded-steel mesh hopper screen prevents large chunks of material into the hopper and improves material flow. Available in 2" x 2" or ½" x ½" mesh.

Flow Gate Control
The Meyer Flow Gate control system allows the end-user to set the material flow rate based on the material being used. The unit is made of 100% aluminum and will not rust, is lightweight and extremely easy to install. The unit clamps to the throat of the spreader. Simply clamp the Flow Gate unit onto the discharge throat of the unit, tighten the clamping screws, and the flow gate teeth bite into the discharge throat securing the control to the spreader. Salt is very expensive, and the flow gate control maximizes material discharge eliminating waste.

Motor Guard & Integrated Storage Stand
The electric motor is arguably the most important aspect of the tailgate spreader. To protect this investment, Meyer has developed a bolt-on heavy-duty tubular motor guard. For receiver hitch models, it also serves as a storage stand when spreader is removed from the vehicle.

The Meyer Spreader Controller (patent-pending) is the most reliable and convenient controller on the market. This lightweight and compact unit comes standard with many easy-to-use, performance-enhancing features such as:
- Auto Spinner Stop Mode - if selected, when the brake is depressed for five seconds, the spinner automatically stops, thus saving your precious salt.
- Auto Vibrate Mode - if selected, the vibrator will automatically activate for 10 seconds every 60 seconds; this keeps the material agitated and ready for application.
The unit also boasts convenient features such as back-lit controls for visual clarity at night, and a variable-speed dial that easily controls spinner speed. When it comes to serviceability, this controller is two steps ahead of the competition. The Controller also monitors the motor performance, if the controller senses that the motor is not operating it automatically shuts down the system allowing the operator to inspect the system. In anticipation of unwanted amp surges, the unit comes standard with easy-to-replace automotive-type fuses. The Meyer Controller requires minimal installation and comes with all mounting hardware and instructions for easy installation.

Spreader Rear Work Lights
Lighting the work area behind the truck is becoming as important as lighting the work area in front of the truck. Meyer offers two options for rear lighting, each comes with a work light and a brake light:
- LED Rear Light Package – Includes a work light and brake light. The heavy-duty industrial LED work light mounts conveniently to any rear location and brightens up the rear of the truck. The light is fully adjustable and plugs in to a standard trailer hitch power cord.
- Halogen Rear Light Package – Includes a work light and brake light. The lighter-duty halogen work light conveniently mounts to any rear location and brightens up the rear of the truck. The light is fully adjustable and plugs in to a standard trailer hitch power cord.
Both options include an integrated rear brake light that works in conjunction with the vehicle’s brake lights. The LED brake lights installs conveniently on any rear tailgate mounted spreader. Each kit consists of one work light and one brake light and comes fully assembled with mounting hardware and instructions.

Prevent your valuable system from the harsh elements of the winter with Meyer’s dielectric grease. Meyer’s dielectric grease is specially formulated to coat and protect electrical connections from deteriorating elements such as salt and road grime. It is recommended to coat all electrical connections prior to winter and each time you re-connect to ensure optimal performance. Grease comes per each, 2.7oz tube.
